Jamie was like my elder brother. We grew up chasing each other around our mums' childhood home, stuffing our faces with all sorts of snacks, failing terribly at our second language Chinese and being hauled to dreaded tuition classes together. For the record, yes, we both fell asleep and had to be woken up by our tutor (sorry Ma & Ah Yi!) Then we grew up and got busier. He was this great IT giant while I remained a tech noob. His hair was a different colour everytime we met because he was rad like that. (My personal favourite was his ashy-pink locks ~ it takes a real man to pull off pink.) His appetite for good food continued and he got to such a hulk-worthy size, that we joked that he was bigger than my sis, bro and me combined! He developed a passion for fishing recently and travelled to obscure places to discover fishing spots, even spearheading a magazine for fellow fishing enthusiasts. Jamie's love for life was hard to keep up with. He truly was one of a kind. When we received the shocking news of his passing, my mum and I stared at each other flabbergasted. My eldest daughter, Heidi, looked at us questioningly and kept asking, "Uncle Jamie has gone to heaven? Uncle Jamie with the stripes and took the blue balloon for me?" We had just celebrated his mum's 60th birthday a couple of weeks ago and he had dressed in stripes. Heidi wanted a balloon and he had come back to her with one after the party (although I thought he would forget since he was so busy entertaining the rest of the guests). She reached up for the balloon, and gave her Uncle Jamie a huge, gleeful hug. We wouldn't have believed that it was our last time together. Dearest Jamie, till we meet again, have a blast up in heaven and say hi to the rest of our loved ones for us. You'll always be missed but never forgotten. Your hearty laugh and cheeky twinkle in the eye whenever you did something naughty, I'll keep close to my heart. Love, Ah Bie
