Boon Kheng Chek 文庆叔or Uncle Boon Kheng was already my dad’s pal. . They n a 3rd man whose name I don’t remember, after work, would look out on the street from the “balcony” and observe the 3 beautiful ladies walking pass. The 3 young pretty ladies walked in stride every evening with their back upright as if they were matching. So the 3 young men called them “1-2-1”, 1-2-1 being the Chinese marching command in lieu of left-right-left. One of them was my Ma and the youngest was of course Ms Lim Suan Sim. The 3 of them became good friends because they were all teachers in the primary school of Fujian Girls School福建女校(now Pen Chinese Girls schools) I think. My Pa married my Ma during the Japanese occupation. I think Boon Kheng Chek was already interested in Boon Kheng Chim(婶) during the “1-2-1” days and my parents became their matchmakers. I remember Boon Kheng Chim would visit my Ma some afternoons n chat. She always have this sweet smile view all
